Hazardous Materials Technician
Course Registration
To schedule a training course, please fill out the registration form and include as much information as you can regarding the number of students and timeframes. All training courses are conducted in a classroom setting.
24Hr. Training Course
$495.00 - p/student
Hazardous materials technicians (respond to stop the release) must have 24 hours of training equal to the “operations level” and know how to implement the employer’s plan and carry out decontamination.
OSHA Knowledge Requirements
❖ An understanding of what hazardous materials are and the risks associated with them in an incident. (Ref.GI-1910.120(q)(6)(i)(A),CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(A))
❖ An understanding of the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous materials are present. (Ref.GI-1910.120(q)(6)(i)(B), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(B))
❖ The ability to recognize the presence of hazardous materials in an emergency. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(i)(C), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(C))
❖ The ability to identify hazardous materials, if possible. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(i)(D), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(D))
❖ An understanding of their role in an employer’s emergency response plan including site security and control, and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Emergency Response Guidebook. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(i)(E), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(E))
❖ The ability to realize the need for additional resources, and to make appropriate notifications to the communication center. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(i)(F), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(i)(F))
❖ Knowledge of basic hazard and risk assessment techniques. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(ii)(A), CI- 1926.65 (q)(6)(ii)(A))
❖ Know how to select and use proper personal protective equipment provided to the first responder operations level. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(ii)(B), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(ii)(B))

❖ Know how to perform basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available with their unit. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(ii)(D), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(ii)(D))
❖ Know how to implement basic decontamination procedures. (Ref.GI-1910.120 (q)(6)(ii)(E), CI-1926.65 (q)(6)(ii)(E))
❖ An understanding of the relevant standard operating procedures and termination procedures.
